First Talawanda Girl’s Cross Country Runner to Make it to State in 30 Years

This year the sophomore Maddy Iden made it to the state cross country meet with her time of 19:04.3 in the 5k at the district meet in Troy, Ohio. Maddy felt excited and encouraged to be the first girl in 30 years to make it to state from Talawanda and hoped to break 19:00.00 in the state meet. As she made her way to state she has the support of not just her team and coaches, but the whole school behind her.

Maddy has been running since seventh grade track, and she started running because her parents said she needed to do a sport. Even though she started because her parents told her to she had to, she has been one of the top runners throughout her high school career finishing first in her sophomore SWOC cross country meet, and first in her freshman mile and two mile events in the SWOC track meet. She also finished second in her freshman SWOC cross country meet and third in her freshman 800 meter run at the SWOC track meet.

This year she state is at 2650 National Road SW, Hebron, Ohio. The girls division 1 race starts 3:00 p.m.
