How Old is Too Old for Trick or Treating?

Halloween has  finally creeped around the corner. Children dressed in costumes of all sorts will be knocking on doors and asking the age-old question, “trick or treat?”

The Talawanda Tribune wanted to know, just how old is too old for trick or treating?

Some people were fine with older trick or treaters, as long as they were not yet teenagers. “Middle School should be your last year,” said history teacher Stephanie Aerni.

For Thomas Jansson, an A.F.S. Student from Finland, Halloween has a similar concept. ‘ It was a big deal from understanding age from, 2-3, until around 8 or 9,” he explained. “Kids wore costumes to school, and we would carve pumpkins out of orange paper. Small kids are always witches.”

When asked “If you were to go back to Finland today, would you go trick or treating?” Jansson responded by saying it would be “considered odd.”

Around THS, students had mixed feelings. When asked the question “How old is too old?” The answers varied. Some agreed high school age was too old, while others were bold enough to admit that they’d be trick or treating until they were 40.

Many students  felt that there shouldn’t be an arbitrary age limit. “If you are in costume, you should be allowed to trick or treat,” Bradley Lairson said “I don’t see a need for an age limit.”

For Oxford, trick or treating will be from 5:30- 7:30 p.m.

Whether you’re trick or treating or handing out candy, Halloween’s erie presence will continue to intrigue every age.
