Orange Leaf Opens in Oxford

When opening an eatery in a college town, there are three requirements for success – it has to be fast, cheap, and fun. On November 29th, the new frozen yogurt spot, Orange Leaf, celebrated its official grand opening. Open for a few weeks now, Orange Leaf has already proven itself to be one of Oxford’s best, fulfilling all three of the aforementioned requirements.

Conveniently located on High Street next to Chipotle, Orange Leaf is a sweet, bright oasis on those dreary winter days. The interior is bright orange and green, with mini tables and chairs for groups, and bar seating for individuals.

The actual yogurt is in a do-it-yourself fashion, with over ten flavors to pick from. And when you have an opinion on a flavor, Orange Leaf wants to hear it.

“When you go online, you can vote for your favorite flavors and toppings,” manager Elizabeth Begley said. “It’s all about what the customer wants.”

While most yogurt chains have only vanilla, chocolate and strawberry yogurt, Orange Leaf extends their flavor options as far as wedding cake and white chocolate. They also have seasonal flavors, such as gingerbread and eggnog for the winter.

After you dispense your yogurt, there is a topping bar for you to mix and match to your heart’s consent. Hundreds of different combinations can be created with their selection of fruit, candy, sprinkles, and syrups. All of this comes at a cheap price too. Upon checkout, your bowl is weighed, and is priced at 40 cents per ounce.

When it comes to competition, Orange Leaf isn’t worried. “There’s not really any competition,” Begley said. “We’re just another frozen yogurt shop in Oxford. If business becomes slow, we can just advertise more.”

For now, Orange Leaf seems to be doing well, offering their customers a variety of ways to save. They have a rewards card that for every ten dollars spent, you get one dollar back. Also, checking in on Facebook will enable you one free ounce of yogurt every time you go in.

Only time will tell, but Orange Leaf appears to be on the fast track to becoming an Oxford staple.
