The students in the Talawanda High School drama class, made up of 57 cast and crew members, are working on their very first production to be performed on the stage of the brand new auditorium in the High School.

This year’s fall production is called Amazed, written by Tony Howell. The play is set around an old woman who is writing her last will before death. She hates everyone in her family and throws her will in a maze for her family to find. The plot of the play follows the old woman’s family going through the maze to be the first person to find the will and gain possession of it.

Director Ryan Steffen produced this play once before in the fall of 2001.

“The play is good for high school students because there are many speaking parts,” Steffen said.  Also, Steffen knows the writer of the script, so the drama program got to use the script for free.

As for the new auditorium, things haven’t been as easy. “It’s like having to re-learn my job,” said Steffen. “Space usage was the hardest part about the play this year. The stage is much bigger.”

Despite the difficulties, Steffen knows audiences want to see a good show. “Expectations are definitely higher, since it is the first play ever in the new auditorium.”

The highly anticipated first showing of Amazed is Thursday evening at 7:00 and two other performances will be at the same time on Friday and Saturday.
