On October 5th, the Talawanda Braves football team traveled over an hour away to Little Miami with hopes of a win.

Going into the game, the team was nervous but confident. Junior and outside linebacker Dustin Hurtt said he was nervous but excited. “I had butterflies, but I was confident we would win,” said Hurtt.

Assistant Coach Andy Zimmerman was feeling anxious for a win. “Before every game, we were always confident, and proud. If the team would work hard and do what we had practiced, things would go our way,” said Zimmerman. “The major push throughout the game was to stay strong on defense.”

Sophomore running-back Maurice Thomas had doubts during the 1st quarter. “I was worried, but in the 2nd quarter, when we got that touch down, I knew we could come out on top,” he said.

October 5th struck the first win of the season, and the first win in over a year. Now that the win is under their belts, players are more energized than ever for the rest of the season. “It’s important to keep going,” said Zimmerman.  “It’s not easy to win a football game, but we believed in ourselves.”

Breaking the losing streak is a change of direction for the team. “I feel as if this is the turning point,” Hurtt said.  “All the hard days and off season practice we have dedicated is finally paying off.”

This coming Friday the Braves will travel to take on their rivals, the Edgewood Cougars. “It’s going to be tough and physical, but if you do your job and the guy next to you does his, we can win,” said Hurtt.
