Battered by losses, the Talawanda Football team heads into their homecoming game with a record of 0-5, looking for their first win on the new field.

On a new field and in a new conference the Talawanda football team is looking for a fresh start.   The new conference, the Southwest Ohio Conference (SWOC), is made up of Mount Healthy, Northwest, Harrison, Edgewood, Ross, Wilmington, Little Miami and Talawanda.

Talawanda Athletic Director, Jason Grunkemyer said, “The new conference will allow our teams to compete a good level of competition.  The conference still contains many of the same teams as last year, but is smaller because there aren’t conferences anymore.”

Five games in, the football team has been unable to garner a win from their games against Monroe (7-28), Carlisle (36-55), Eaton (28-33), Mount Healthy (20-35) and Harrison (16-46).  Northwest’s team has had better luck; they have held a perfect record for the first five games.  The team is pulling to break Northwest’s record at the upcoming game.

Football players are hopeful about the outcome of tonight’s game.

“Northwest is a lot like Mount Healthy, we did real well against mount healthy,” said senior varsity wide receiver, Austin Lee. “If we play a full four quarters and every person on the team does their part, we will come out with a win.” he said.

THS football player Troy Mabis doesn’t believe that their record is tied to future games.  “Our record and their record doesn’t dictate how we perform on the field. They are undefeated but we have improved alot since last year, tripling our total points scored. We have a chance if we stick to our gameplan, stay disciplined, and don’t turn the ball over.” said Mabis

THS football players, students, staff, and community members are pulling for a win at tonight’s game; after all, who doesn’t want to win their homecoming game.
