Google logo is playable synthesizer today

In honor of Robert Moog’s 78th birthday, today’s Google logo is a playable MiniMoog synthesizer.

Manufactured between 1970 and 1980, the iconic MiniMoog was one of the first widely distributed synthesizers and has been featured on a number of landmark recordings.  The reissued version, the MiniMoog Voyager, remains popular today.

The Google Moog is based off of the original model and has a control panel that is broken into four sections: mixer, oscillators, envelope, and filter.  Attached is a twenty-four note keyboard.  All three sections of the control panel can be manipulated to create a wide variety of tones, and a switch to left the keyboard allows for expanded octaves.  Included is a four track recorder and the ability to share anything created on Google+.

If you are viewing this article after Wednesday, May 23, you may view the Google Moog and all other custom Google logos here.
