When Kofenya Is Closed, Tribune Tries Graeter’s

Every team needs an emergency protocol, and a news staff is no exception. We went to Kofenya to try their holiday offerings, but unfortunately they close at 5 p.m. while the college students are “away.” But do the college students really leave, or does the city of Oxford hide them underground for the holidays? We’re not going to investigate because we like the ample parking available uptown as well as the calmer traffic patterns.
While the rest of Talawanda students were probably studying hard for their upcoming exams, we were not. At least one of us (full-disclosure, it was Daniel) tried TWO holiday treats, and here’s the Scoop:
Some of us tried Graeter’s own seasonal holiday offerings while some of us made our own concoctions. Daniel got a scoop of peppermint chip ice cream in a sugar cone. “It is peppermint ice cream with bits of candy cane in it. It’s pretty good,” Daniel said. One downside however, is “it melted way too fast.” He gave it 4 out of 5 candy canes. Daniel also tried the frozen peppermint hot chocolate shake. “It’s quite creamy,” he said. He said it had a slight frozen, hot chocolate taste, but just couldn’t stop commenting on how creamy the concoction was.
Our advisor, Waxy, went for the peppermint shake. She said, “It doesn’t look that festive, but it tastes that festive.” She gave it 2 out of 5 stocking stuffers.
Garrison went for a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. He said, “it tastes like a pumpkin pie; it’s definitely festive, but just a few months behind.” He gave it 5 out of 5 gingerbread cookies.
Lauren made her own holiday combo: lemon and raspberry sorbet. “I tried to be festive, but I’m very lactose intolerant,” Lauren said. She gave it 8 out of 9 reindeer (all except Rudolph). Garrison added, “I’m a little lactose intolerant, but I’m even more festive.” Lauren was upset that Garrison tried to one-up her unfortunate digestive issues.
Alayna went for a scoop of vanilla in a waffle cone and said, “It was delicious, it was plain, and it looks like snow year-round so don’t judge me.” She gave it 5 out of 5 elves.
Sadie tried the free water in a very tiny cup. It was most likely Oxford city water, but we cannot confirm. Daniel also tried it and said, “it’s not good water, but it’s better than Oxford water.” Sadie said the water tastes very “uncrisp.” She gave it 4 out of 10 melted snowflakes.
