Oxford, OH—The two-time defending SWOC champion THS Academic Challenge team took to the buzzers on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022 for a Senior Night matchup with the Mount Healthy Owls, and for the team, it was business as usual. A dominant 2-0 sweep split down the middle by a blowout victory by the Junior Varsity team highlighted the special evening for the Brave, who will be graduating 4 seniors at the conclusion of this season.
The senior core, made up of Michelle Miao, Daryl Zazycki, Zainab Khan and Nathan Douglass, have been part of 2 straight dominant SWOC campaigns, both consisting of undefeated seasons and league championships. The senior night victory was the 31st straight win for the Brave dating back to a postseason win over Ross 3 seasons ago to secure a third place finish in the SWOC. Since then, the Brave have gone without a blemish.
The largely untested Talawanda team will, however, will be in for the toughest fight of their season this upcoming week, as they will face off with undefeated Harrison in their regular season finale. The Wildcats, currently tied with the Brave atop the SWOC standings with a 6-0 record, have also dominated their competition, with only one match coming within 20 points, an 8 point victory over Edgewood in the Wildcats’ latest match last Wednesday. Additionally, the Wildcats have been Talawanda’s chief competition in the SWOC since the departure of Little Miami, with their only losses last season coming in the 2 matches versus the Brave.
The two teams will square off tomorrow, with action beginning at 4:00 pm at Harrison High School.
