THS Cross Country Takes the Dub at SWOC

Oxford, OH—The cross country team ran in their SWOC meet at home on Saturday, Oct. 16. This was the race that most of the runners have been preparing for all season, as it was the last meet before the District meet (only the top 7 on the boys and girls teams run).
This season has been great for all of the runners, and hopes were high for the SWOC meet. Coach Stiver expected all of the runners to give 100% regardless of what they expected. “Our expectation is to win both the boys and girls championships. However, we know we can’t control what the other teams do. We believe we have the hardest working runners in the SWOC and that it will pay off with great performances. Our kids always ‘show up’ on the most important meets and run well,” said Coach Stiver.
The team proved themselves on Saturday by winning both the boys and girls championship races. Even the middle school team won both of their races. Kiefer Bell came in first place for the boys and Hannah Lippincott came in first for the girls, both defending their titles as SWOC Champions. Many other Talawanda Runners were top finishers, securing our win.

Our training has paid off, but for our top runners the SWOC meet was hopefully not the end of their season. “This team may go as far as the bus will take them without running out of gas :). Our goal is for both teams to qualify for the Regional Meet. The girls have made it four years in a row. The guys made it two years ago and hope to qualify again this year. Our District and Regional have the top teams in the state year after year. This makes it difficult to advance at times, but we believe we have a talented group that works hard and they will be rewarded for their efforts,” said Coach Stiver. The district meet will take place on Oct. 23 in Cedarville, Ohio.
