Information About Course Scheduling for the 2021-2022 School Year
By Muhammed Khan
As the school year is slowly coming to the end, it is time to start planning for next year. Soon, students will have the opportunity to choose what courses they want to take next school year. Although the process is still in an early stage, we do have some useful information that should be taken into consideration when thinking about what courses you want to take.
According to Mr. Davie, a school guidance counselor, all course offerings will be available online on February 8, 2021. Right now, you can find the course selection guide at this link: THS School Scheduling 2021-2022.
Next school year, some new courses will be offered. Topical Lit will be “Detective Literature & Film Noir” with Mrs. Squance. The Music Department will be teaching a combined Guitar & Ukulele course. Mr. Zimmerman will offer Computer Programming and Systems Admin through the University of Cincinnati. Lastly, Peer Helper courses in Foods and Art will allow students the chance to partner with students with special needs.
Mr. Davie answers Tribune’s questions below:
What courses will be offered to the current freshmen next year (when we are sophomores)?
All course offerings will be available online as of 2/8/21…you can also access them in the 21-22 Course Scheduling Guide (on the THS School Counseling website).
Will there be any new courses offered?
Yes – Topical Lit next year will be “Detective Literature & Film Noir” with Mrs. Squance and the Music Dept will be teaching a combined Guitar & Ukulele course. Additionally. Mr. Zimmerman will offer Computer Programming and Systems Administration through the Univ of Cincinnati, completing that program. In addition, Peer Helper courses in both Foods and Art will allow THS students the chance to partner with our students with special needs, similar to what we did this year in Personal Wellness and Music.
Will there be any major changes to which teachers will teach each course?
Nothing like that is being discussed, but it’s very early in the process.
Are there any other major things that stand out to you about course scheduling for next year?
Despite the pandemic, not really, no. The only significant change is that school counselors will not be meeting 1-1 with every 8th-11th grader like we typically do. Certainly, we are meeting with any/all who request a meeting, but we won’t have students coming to the PAC as we’ve done in years past.
As Mr. Davie mentioned, school counselors will not be meeting with each individual 8th-11th grader like they usually do. Instead, they will only be meeting with those who request a meeting. So, start thinking about what courses you want to take so you can schedule a meeting if necessary!
