Ohio Voters to Hit the Polls in Critical Primary
Ohio voters are making their way to the nearest polling station today to vote for presidential nominees in a huge election for both parties.
John Kasich and Donald Trump are in a dogfight for first place in the Buckeye State, where many polls show the two candidates tied, or with Kasich having a slight lead in Ohio.
It’s a must win state for John Kasich. The governor of Ohio could mop up serious delegates in a state where the winner takes all, propelling him further in the race from his current fourth place standing.
On the democratic side, Bernie Sanders trails Hillary Clinton in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll by single digits, 52% to 43%. Clinton has been campaigning in Ohio vigorously, including a CNN town hall last night, where she continues to attack Bernie Sanders on his support against the auto bailout.
A win for Clinton in Ohio would likely put her in a great spot for the nomination, however Bernie Sanders leads in other states that vote today, including Illinois.
Another key race for the primaries is the Florida Republican Primary, a must win for Sen. Marco Rubio, who has to take his own state to stay in the race. Currently, Donald Trump leads by double digits in multiple polls from Florida, where a Rubio win could possibly lead to a contested republican convention, on the delegate count.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton has a commanding lead in Florida as well. The former secretary of State holds 64% in a new NBC/WSJ poll, compared to a Sanders 32%
Other states vote today as well, including North Carolina, Missouri, and Illinois. Currently, Trump leads in all of these states with Clinton. However, the Clinton and Sanders race has gotten considerably closer in Missouri and Illinois. Sanders even leads some late polls in Illinois, where a new CBS News survey put him ahead by 2 points.
