Volley for the Cure
Volley for the Cure was not just about volleyball, it was about a bigger picture: raising money for the fight against breast cancer. Each of the Talawanda teams came out successful. Around $1,700 was collected. A local business, Luna Cares, will receive a little more than half of the money earned. According to Lunacares.com, their mission is to “directly support the financial needs of women undergoing treatment for cancer and their families.” The rest of the funds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Kevin Hawks, a parent of a Talawanda volleyball player earned $98.50 in the split the pot raffle. In the end, Hawks gave the money back to be donated. This is the first year FCCLA ( Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) sponsored the event. They plan to sponsor it for years to come.
