THS Baseball Left With No Coach
All three coaches from the THS varsity baseball team “saw more opportunities at Lakota West,” athletic director, Wes Cole said.
According to Cole, at the beginning of September, head varsity coach for THS, Greg Leurck, chose to leave because Lakota West was a more convenient commute for him and his family. Noah Zipko, the assistant varsity coach, and Mr. Adams, the pitching coach, went along with Leurck because they wanted to stay together as a coaching staff.
Cole said he wishes the coaches would have stayed with the baseball program, but understands why they made their decisions.
THS baseball players say they feel left behind. “It will be hard at first to get things rolling, but once we find ourselves as a team, we will start winning again,” said Alex Bear, a senior varsity player. Bear said he wants the new coaches to have great leadership, strong will, and determination.
Applications and résumés are now being accepted by Cole and the athletic team for anyone who is interested in taking one of the new coaching positions. Eight to ten people are interested in the coaching positions so far, Cole said. They would like to make the deadline for accepting applications around the 25th of September so that the team is ready for the season start in March of 2016.
