Minions Review
On July 10, 2015, Universal Pictures released one of the most anticipated films of the year, Minions. Minions is the third installment of the Despicable Me franchise, which includes Despicable Me, and Despicable Me 2. Director for Minions, Pierre Coffin, previously directed the last two films in the franchise and is the voice behind all of the minions.
The story is focused on super villain Gru’s sidekicks, the cute little yellow minions. In the film, the minions are trying to find the most evil master they can work for. Over the minion’s history, all of the masters they have worked for have died. Three brave minions Kevin, Stuart, and Bob go on a journey to find the most evil master that all of the minions can serve.
Minions is an adventure film with lots of comedy. The movie uses the voice talents of Pierre Coffin, Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, and Geoffrey Rush.
Reviews of the film are mixed: some praise its comedy and music, while others criticize its plot. The film review website, Rotten Tomatoes gave the film 54% based on 178 reviews with the average rating being 5.8/10. Josh Terry from Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 3/4 rating and said “Minions is a fun backstory for a popular group of sidekicks, but it really shouldn’t extend beyond that. It does a good job with what it has, but it won’t leave you asking for more.”
Minions is currently the 2nd highest grossing animated film in history after Frozen, and the 10th highest grossing film of all time. Minions became the third film to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office, and the first non-disney animated film to do so. It is also the 23rd film in history to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide. The film has grossed higher than both previous films in the franchise. The film grossed $334 million in the domestic market, and $819 million in the international market, making the worldwide collection $1.15 billion. The film is still running at the box office.
