Miami Holds Human Rights and Social Justice Program
On the week of November 18-21, Miami University held their 10th annual Human Rights and Social Justice program.
The purpose of the program was to raise awareness about social, cultural, and economic human rights violations, and promote social justice action/advocacy.
Student and local organizations shared information about their work related to social justice and human rights.
Talawanda Junior Chandler Metcalf attended the program to present her charity, Stars for Syria. She promoted her hand-painted sunglasses as well as her galaxy printed scarves that help raise money for children in Syrian Refugee Camps.
“Even though it was a pretty small event, I feel as though I had the great opportunity to spread my message to a more diverse audience,” said Metcalf, “It was a good experience and I got a lot of support from it.”
Other booths that were there included, “Threads of Hope”, a relief fund for women and children in the Philippines, and “Empowering Women”, a group at Miami focused on informing local women about worldwide issues.
