Talawanda Ice Hockey Getting Ready For Season
On November 2, the first Talawanda ice hockey tryouts will take place at Goggin Ice Center. To prepare the players for the season, the team has been conditioning several times a week.
Assistant coach Marc Tincher said he has been very pleased with the number of players participating in the workouts. During the workouts the team has been running and lifting weights. By rules of the State of Ohio, coaches are not allowed to coach the team on the ice before November 1. “There are rules that indicate how much you can play together with your team,” Tincher said. “Right now we, the coaches, are really not allowed to have any coaching contact, in terms of on-ice-practice.”
Although head coach Jared Sacre has only been present at two of the team workouts, he said he is very pleased with what he has seen. ”I like the intensity, everybody cheering the other guys on and never giving up when we hussle,” he said.
According to Tincher the workouts should prepare the guys to be able to fight hard through the whole game. ”We want the team to be able to keep up and even beat the other team in the third or possible the fourth period” he said.
Last year’s record, with an overall of 10 loses, 4 wins and 4 ties, is something that head coach Sacre says he believes is going to improve. “A lot of the teams we are going to play lost a lot of players, while we picked up” Sacre said. “There are really only two teams that could gives us some trouble–Saint X and Troy.”
The team´s first scrimmage is November 9 against Findley.
