What Does the Fox Say?
The whimsical Norwegian talk show duo Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker, also known as Ylvis, have pushed their way to the peak of the United States top 100 charts with their most recent song The Fox, which was released on September 3, 2013.
The Fox has had 96 million views on youtube as of October 8, and that number is still on the rise. The song has reached number 8 on the Hot 100 Billboard. The song was made as a promotion for the new season on their television show titled I Kveld Med Ylvis or Tonight with Ylvis in english.
The duo was surprised by the success of the song. “The song was meant to entertain a few norwegians for 3 minutes” said Bård on the Skavlan Talkshow.
They have performed the song live at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival and on the Ellen DeGeneres show. They were recently signed by Warner Music Group, one of the “big three” in the recording world.
Ylvis had worked with Stargate Studios, big name producers from New York. The Ylvisåker brothers knew who they were working with. They say that their goal wasn’t to make a song that looked like they were trying to make a hit. “from a comedy perspective, it would be much more fun to abuse the talent of Stargate and come with a total s*** idea” said Bård. “But that backfired”.
