Setting Stone Coffee House is Approaching

On Friday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m., the Setting Stone Coffee House will return for the second time to the new Talawanda High School.

“The last one–the first one at the new building–was amazing, and we expect it to be just as positive of an experience this time around, if not better,” Clare Squance, one of the advisors of Setting Stone, said of the second (and final) Coffee House of the year. “We’re hoping even more people will attend this one.”

The Setting Stone Coffee House is an event where students are given the opportunity to perform music and poetry or prose readings to the beat of a laid-back, welcoming environment with snacks and coffee.

The event is the primary fundraiser for the award-winning Setting Stone Liberal Arts Magazine, a forum for students to publish their writing and art. Students and staff are getting hyped for the event.

“[The last Coffee House] was even better than the ones at the old high school,” said Ashley Sammons, English teacher and Coffee House attendee. “It was awesome.”

The students here at Talawanda agree.  “It’s so much fun, really chill,” said sophomore Allie Barker. “I’m definitely looking forward to attending the next one.”

Many students went to the Coffee House for their first time at the previous Coffee House, it was a great turnout.

“I went to the coffee house for the first time and I had so much fun!” said Junior Jessica Tegge. “The coffee is delicious too.”

There is some worry about living up to expectations, however.

“I hope it’ll be just as awesome as the last Coffee House,” said Audrey MacNeil, Coffee House Editor and Setting Stone staff member. The Setting Stone Liberal Arts Magazine depends on the Coffee House, and its success or failure determines the student-run program’s fate.

The current lineup of performers is not yet known, but for those interested in performing, sign ups begin starting April 15th. Admission is free for all performers.
