THS Swimmers Compete at State
Thursday February 21, after a final team practice the four state qualifiers, Edgar Caraballo, Jesus Caraballo, Josh Crowder and Scott Richmond along with coach Stephen Pasquale packed up and drove the four hours to Canton, Ohio for this years’ Division I State Championship meet.
“I thought everyone swam great over the weekend,” said Pasquale. “The pool in Canton is much slower than Miami’s pool so that alone makes it hard to duplicate our times from districts.”
Both Caraballo brothers swam the 100 Butterfly. Crowder swam the 100 Freestyle and Richmond competing in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 IM (individual medley). The four swimmers also made up the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
Despite being a slower pool than the Braves home pool (the Miami University Rec Center) the swimmers were still able to break our school record in the medley relay while winning the consolation final.
E. Caraballo moved up from being seeded 17th to 12th in his fly and broke his own school record and Richmond was a half second faster than districts and placed 6th in the state.
“I think we had a great season,” said Pasquale. “It was a great way to end the season.”
Ending the season the boys team had an undefeated record of 10-0. The girls team also had a successful season finishing with a 8-2 record.
“The team is one of the best I’ve seen in years,” Pasquale said. “Next year the goal will be to win the SWOC again and to qualify individuals for the state meet on both the boys and girls sides. Next year should see another dominant boys team and probably the deepest and best girls team for Talawanda in quite some time,” he said.
