Review: Megan Roark Takes a Look at Taylor Swift’s new album, “Red”
Young, rich and famous country/pop artist Taylor Swift hit iTunes and radios everywhere with her new album Red on October 22, 2012. With her upbeat songs and catchy hooks, Swift has
been stealing the attention and ears of teens and young adults all over since 2006.
Red features songs like “I Knew You Were Trouble”, and her latest hit, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” which were both rated in the Top 5 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.
In the track, “I Knew You Were Trouble,” shes sings, “I guess you didn’t care, and I guess I liked that.” In this, Swift finally admits to liking boys that break her heart, as opposed to her previous albums. In her song from 2008, “You’re Not Sorry,” the first verse says “I’ve been giving out chances and all you do is let me down.” In just 4 years, she has moved from singing about heartbreak to getting over it and moving forward.
In her 16 new songs, Swift changes her stance from boy-crazy teenager to experienced young adult. She’s grown from making mistakes with boys and dwelling on it to learning from them and moving on. “I’ve been spending the last 8 months thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end. But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again.” In these lyrics from her song “Begin Again,” she openly says that she used to think love caused nothing but heartache. Red is not only an example of Swift’s success and talent, but of her growing up and maturing into a young woman.
Along with that, Red is Taylor’s most diverse album. In her previous albums, Speak Now (2010) and Fearless (2008), the majority of her tracks are about boys, break-ups and make-ups. Her 2012 album features songs about boys (of course), but also changes in life and letting loose with her friends.
Taylor Swift has dropped this album in the prime of her career. Swift and her band members, Paul Sidoti and Grant Mickleson (guitarists) and Al Wilson (drums), have crafted together a suburb album for the country-loving listeners today.
If you enjoy great instrumentation and catchy lyrics, picking up a copy of her new album Red is definitely a recommended.
