Over the years, playing for the volleyball team has become not just a game, but a sisterhood.

Francesca Lindley, a junior who has played volleyball all 3 years she’s been at THS said, “We’re all very close. We’re like sisters.”

The girls connecting with each other seems like it will help their success on and off the court.

Senior Meghan Bruder has been on the varsity squad since her sophomore year.  “As a whole team, I think we’ve improved in many different ways,” she said.  “We are really starting to click with each other, and starting to hold each other accountable for ‘doing our job’ on the court.”

The girls said they hope this closeness will help them win championships this year.

“Last year we lost in sectional championships, which gave us nothing more than the motivation to only go further,” Bruder continued.  “We have really been focusing on how to close out on games and how to play up to the competition by not focusing so much on power, but by placing the ball and being smart, which will help us greatly when playing harder teams in the tournament,” she said.

“I think we have the skills and talent to make it farther than we ever have.” said Lindley.

Lindley and Bruder both agree that William Henry Harrison High School will be their biggest competition this year. “[Harrison High School] always has a good team.” said Lindley. “In our league, I think our biggest competition will most likely be Harrison High School. I know of girls that play club volleyball during the winter and spring, which really helps with the skill level of the team.” explains Bruder.

This season, the varsity volleyball team is undefeated. Their record so far is 6-0, and they ended up defeating their rivals, Harrison High School, on Thursday, August 30th.

The girls are looking forward to a successful rest of the season and say they hope to remain undefeated.
