Getting to know Assistant Principal Molly Merz
When Mike Malone left THS for an opening at TMS to being the new principal, the assistant principal position at THS opened up. Molly Merz, a teacher at Hamilton High School for 14 years, was given this opportunity.
Merz was influenced to go into the education, she said, due to all of her wonderful experiences with her past teachers that she encountered growing up. “The Talawanda district really values their students and staff. I agree with what THS is trying to provide for the students and that makes this such a wonderful school to be at,” said Merz.
Before Merz came to THS, she taught the teacher academy program at HHS. She was also a health teacher and athletic trainer.
“I loved being a teacher and I respect teaching so much,” said Merz.
Merz has had her administrative license for 8 years. “With my husband being the principal at Kramer [elementary], I have some experience in a lot of different areas for education. I wanted to try out being an assistant principal,” she said.
With the new THS building, new opportunities are being presented to the students, and Merz is excited about the opportunities it offers. “The possibilities are endless with all the fine art and extra curriculars the school has to offers,” said Merz.
The new technology and athletic facilities allow THS to give their students access to the 21st century. “The new technology at THS really allows this gorgeous new building to shine, and helps give the students access to what they need,” said Merz.
With this being Merz’s first year, she is hoping to enjoy this new experience as an assistant principal at THS. “I plan on staying as long as Talawanda will have me,” Merz said.
