Catapults at Talawanda

Every year, catapults are set and tennis balls are launched over by the baseball field at THS.

The object of the project is to launch a tennis ball with distance and accuracy using kinetic and potential energy.

The reason for this is physics class. At the end of the year, students in Physics build catapults and launch them The project began back in 2000, as a way for students to apply their physics knowledge to real-world situations.

The project is a lot of hard work. Senior Chris Curme, while launching his catapult, said, “This project took about 25 hours total. Seriously.” Many of the seniors say the same.

Physics teacher Scott Schmid believes the project is a fun experience for students. “The excitement on the kid’s faces makes all of the work well worth it.” said Schmid.

The project is  great opportunity for students, and a fun way to end the year.
