Reds Win in Dramatic Fasion On Mother’s Day
A double, three home runs, a grand slam, six RBI”s. It’s hard to imagine a better game that was put on by Joey Votto on Mother’s Day on Sunday the 13th. What took place over a seven-hour span and a four-hour rain delay was simply pleasing if you were a Reds fan. The walk off grand slam lifted the Reds to a 9-5 win against the Washington Nationals to improve the Reds record to 17-16.
“That’s why I enjoy what I am doing,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “Moments like this make up for all of the down moments. I don’t play golf, but I’ve heard guys say that last shot of the day keeps you coming back that next time. A day like this will hopefully keep the fans coming back and keep us believing that we’re never out of a ballgame.”
The Reds are currently 2.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals who have a record of 20-14. With the Reds sitting at a record of 17-16, not only the fans think the Reds are under performing a bit. We’re a good team,” Votto said. “I don’t think we’re a .500 team. I think we’re better than that. These are the types of wins good teams get. This is not a special win. If you want to be a good team, you have to get these types of wins.”
With one month of the season down, and five more remaining and possibly more, the Cincinnati Reds are looking to improve on the start to the season and win the their home town a World Series Championship for the first time since 1990.
