FAVC Track Preview
With the 2012 spring track season coming to an end, many would say that it’s been a good run. Throughout the broken records and tropheys claimed by the Talwanda Track and Field team, the best might still be yet to come.
Wednesday, May 9th and the following Friday, May 11th are the scheduled dates for the FAVC West Track meet. Hosted by Mt. Healthy, the Braves are looking for the top spot.
With strong runners for both girls and boys this year, “First places on both sides isn’t out of our reach.” quoted head track coach Paul Stiver.
The last time both girls and boys have walked home with a first place FAVC trophies was in 1989. But with an extremely close second place finish by the boys last year, and a third place by the girls, the team is expecting big things this year.
On the girl’s side, based on FAVCSports.com, it will be a close finish. Talawanda holds 7 of the top 17 possible 1sts while Mt. Healthy holds 6. This will surely make for a wire-to-wire meet, possibly coming down to the last event.
With top Talawanda girls including Sarah Starrett, Ali Yeajer, Jessica Tegge, Hannah Wachenheim, Sophie Dilek, and Kyra Reisenfeld, the girl’s side will be among the top ranked teams.
On the boy’s side, according to FAVCSports.com owns 4 of the top 17 first place spots. This puts them just behind Northwest with with 8 firsts. Top Talawanda boys include Nathaniel Robinson, Robby Alexander, Ben Whiteman, Matt Snell, and Matt Derickson.
Wednesday, May 9th will be the finals for field events and finals for the 4×800 meter relay. Prelims will also take place for the 100, 110, and 300 hurdles as well as the 100, 200, and 400 meter runs.
On Friday, finals for every event will be run and winners announced.
For most runners, the FAVC meet counts as the most signifigant meet of the year. Come support your Braves!
