Said and Meant Opens
Talawanda’s Drama Program is ready to finally present the play, Said and Meant, that some considered controversial. Multiple cuts were made to the show that will be presented.
“We are going to put on the best show we can, with what we have. When picking the show we used professional judgment.” Stated Drama Teacher, TJ Pearson.
Even the tickets were affected. The design team was required to put that the show was for children 12+ on the tickets. Also, in the program, there is a page from Pearson and Ryan Steffen (THS Drama Program Director) to their audience.
The program states, “We believe that the play Said and Meant provides a valuable example of the many different ways that communication can occur, with both positive and negative consequences. We hope that upon viewing the play you will see that our intent is not to press uncomfortable situations upon our community, but not to bring those situations to light in a professional manner so that discussion can occur.”
Steffen has been in contact with the writer of the play, Randy Wyatt, and has worked extensively with him in keeping the greater themes of the play alive while paring certain elements that may have been considered inappropriate.
“Most of the situations that were “controversial” were going to be taken out anyway in the final show.” said Steffen.
If you don’t have tickets yet, there may be some floating around with the Drama students, or you can pick one up at the door. The show starts at 7:00 and runs Wednesday through Saturday in room 133 at Talawanda High School.
