Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PC)

Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PC)

By William Salzarulo

In 2018, Playstation Studios along with Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Spider-Man. Spider-Man was released to critical acclaim and was considered for Game Of The Year. However, the game was released exclusively on Playstation consoles (Playstation 4 and later Playstation 5). Essentially, if you didn’t have a Playstation you couldn’t play the game. For years, many gamers (including myself) were wondering when they could finally play Spider-Man. That question was answered on August 12th 2022. When Marvel’s Spider-Man remastered launched on PC and MAC. Nearly 4 years after its initial release, PC and MAC players were finally able to play this award winning game.

The plot follows 23 year old Peter Parker. Peter is currently employed at Octavius Industries, and is in his 8th year of being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Throughout the game, you see more and more of Spider-Man’s allies and foes. Including, Mary Jane “MJ” Watson, Miles Morales, Aunt May Parker, Vulture, Rhino, J Jonah Jameson, Scorpion, Mr. Negative and the list goes on. However, you get to see some of Spider-Man’s villains before they become evil. Such as Otto Octavius aka Doctor Octopus and Norman Osbourne aka Green Goblin. However, only one of these villains actually shows up to fight Spider-Man in the game, while the other is slightly teased through ‘Easter Eggs’.

The game’s plot/dialogue is written by Ben Arfman and Kelsey Beachum and is based on the character created by the legendary Stan Lee. The game’s plot is an entirely original piece, with no story ties to the massively popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tragically, Stan Lee passed away shortly after the game’s release. In classic Stan Lee fashion, he makes a cameo talking to Peter Parker.

If you are looking for a game with exciting gameplay, a fantastic story, and hundreds of hours of replayability, then Marvel’s Spider-Man is for you. It’s filled with characters you know and love in a story that feels fresh and stand alone when compared to its film counterpart. It can be any game you want it to be. It can be a stealth action game, a sandbox collectathon, a beat-em up. It has a little slice for everyone. If you enjoy Spider-Man and want to feel like you are Spider-Man, then I highly recommend this game. I give Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC a 9/10. Definitely in my top 5 favorite games of all time.
