Talawanda Gets New Track and Field Coach

Talawanda Gets New Track and Field Coach

By LOGAN MURRAY

As a new season approaches for the Track and Field teams, Talawanda welcomes new head coach Brad Hoblitzell. In previous seasons he was a pole vault and throwing coach which led to his recent promotion. Coach Hoblitzell is currently working with the Indoor Track team at Talawanda as their head coach as well. When asked about his plans for the season one word stood out: Compete.

In terms of the season ahead, Hoblitzell said, “I’m very excited about this season. We obviously have a lot of very talented athletes that have been in the track program for years. One of the things we want to do, and we’ve talked with the rest of the coaches, is we want to compete, and that’s a big part of who we are. We’re going to compete everyday, we’re going to compete in practice, and we’re going to compete in meets.”

Competition has always been one of his policies, encouraging athletes to do their best not only in meets but in practice and all other parts of life as well. “It’s about becoming a better version of yourself everyday,” Hoblitzell said. With several returning athletes being either right on the edge of or currently holding records at the School, League, and even District level maintaining a competitive mindset at all times may prove to be crucial. Which seems to be a mindset reflected by the coach:

“One of the things we’re working to do is to find some other opportunities to compete in some bigger meets. We want to give our student athletes the best opportunity to compete against the best in Southwest Ohio because we know we have some of the best athletes in Southwest Ohio. So we want to create a team of distance folks, jumpers, throwers, everything that wants to go out and compete everyday, get better, most importantly just compete with themselves.”

Track and Field starts on Feb. 22, 2022 after school.
