Movember

Update Dec. 12, 2018:  Now that November is over the Movember fundraiser totals are in.  Team MOhio raised $2320 total — the most they’ve raised since becoming involved in the cause in 2012.

Movember is an event that some teachers at Talawanda participate in to raise support for prostate, testicular and other cancers. Movember is the growing of a mustache in order to show support and recognition for different kinds of cancer that affect men’s health.

Matt Aerni, an English teacher at Talawanda High School, started this tradition in 2012. Aerni said, “I think it was in the Hamilton Journal article that I saw and I thought ‘Oh! That would be 1. A good cause to support and 2. Hilarious if I could get a bunch of teachers to grow mustaches.’ So in 2012 I jumped on and joined a team.”

Aerni explained that although support has dwindled in numbers since 2012, teachers every year still get out and grow their mustaches in support of prostate and testicular cancer awareness.

The teachers that are participating this year are Matt Aerni, Jay Hunsche, Nate Silberstein, Pete Thomas, Andy Zimmerman, and Principal Tom York. Together they have raised over $1400 for men’s health.  Vote for the best beard below!
