Talawanda Drama Presents Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon

This week, the Talawanda Drama Club has been performing “The Brother’s Grimm Spectaculathon,” the 2016 Fall play. “What is it about?” you may ask. Well, they say it themselves! You see “Monster slaying action as the three-headed pig battles the wolf-o-bot in a bone-crushing cage match of death!” (Zolidis 7). Well, maybe not so much. The story follows two narrators as they attempt to tell all 209 original Grimm brother’s fairy tales, in 90 minutes. However, things don’t always go as planned. They are assisted by a cast of 14 students, who play over 50 roles. Some of our favorites make an appearance, Rapunzel (Amily Zhou Wang), Hansel and Gretel (Caylor Jarvis and Aleigha Rice), The Frog Prince (Gage Evans), Cinderella, or “Cindy” (Emily Kraushar), and, of course, God. We also meet some lesser known characters, like The Devil’s Grandmother (Dakota, The Girl With No Hands (Autumn Spencer), a Dirt Merchant (Betsy Phillips), and definitely no crab people. The opening night performance was fantastic, and it showed just how hard the cast has worked for the past few months. Some other highlights include, a modern retelling of Snow White (Betsy Phillips) and her band of misogynistic dwarfs, a street-hardened Little Red Riding Hood (Dakota BVK), and Caleb Boggess’s hilarious performance as every single role in Cinderella, simultaneously. These classic tales are twisted and pieced together in a clever, slightly confusing, and completely entertaining way. If you want a night to sit back and feel like a kid again, or rather, a kid with an advanced sense of humor, then “The Brother’s Grimm Spectaculathon” is the show for you! The cast’s last performance will be Saturday, October 29th at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are 7 dollars and available at the door.
