Graeter’s on High Street in Oxford.

In most towns, ice cream parlors aren’t hard to come by, and Oxford is no exception. Oxford has four ice cream places uptown: three on High Street and one on Spring Street. Choosing among these places can be difficult, especially since each one is different. The following guide shows the good, bad, and everything in between to help you make up your mind.

A local favorite, Graeter’s, recently opened a new location in uptown Oxford. While some locations feature a bakery, the Oxford location does not. However, it still has a small candy display and, of course, ice cream.

Orange Leaf offers Frozen Yogurt by the Ounce.

The classic parlor features over 20 ice cream flavors and several gelato and sorbet flavors. Not only can you get your ice cream in a cone or a dish, you can also get it in the form of a sundae with toppings such as hot fudge, peanut butter, and sprinkles. The menu ranges from $1.59 for a phosphate soda to $5.45 for signature sundaes. Graeter’s features several indoor tables and one outside, as well. Unfortunately, with its location being in the middle of uptown, parking can be difficult to find.

Frozen yogurt is a great alternative to ice cream if you’re lactose intolerant or counting calories, and Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt on High Street is a completely customizable frozen yogurt experience. It offers two sizes, to-go cups, and even froyo dividers to maximize the flavors in one cup.

After you’ve chosen from 14 flavors, including peanut butter, salted caramel, chocolate, and cookies and cream, you can finish off  your cup with toppings that include crushed Reese’s Cups, cookie dough, peanut butter sauce, and cherries. The froyo goes for $.49 an ounce. The location itself features a few tables and chairs, and metered parking.

Spring Street Treats on Spring Street includes a drive-thu window.

Spring Street Treats, located on Spring Street near Kroger, is another great option. The family-owned business has been an Oxford favorite since 2012.  Not only does Spring Street Treats feature chocolate and vanilla soft serve, they also have a wide variety of sundaes and even hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, and other snacks.

The menu ranges from $.79 for potato chips to $11.95 for the Colossal Creation which has five mounds of soft serve  and five toppings of your choice. Spring Street Treats has no inside seating, but has several picnic benches and swings for outside seating. There is also parking on site and a drive-thru ice cream window. Spring Street Treats closes November 8 and plans to reopen for the 2016 season in February weather permitting.

UDF on the corner of High and Beech Streets.

Gas station chain UDF, is half convience store, half ice cream parlor. They have a wide range of flavors, anywhere from Paintball Blast to classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla, and seasonal flavors like peppermint sticks and pumpkin. UDF also has shakes, malts and sundaes, and floats. The location itself has a few tables and chairs. It also has parking, though very little. UDF often runs promotions, such as, buy one scoop get one free. Another plus to UDF is their U-Drive fuel rollback program. Every purchase you make will go toward fuel savings at UDF pumps.

Even though each Oxford ice cream shop is unique, and choosing which one to go to can be difficult, they all have at least one thing in common: delicious ice cream.
