With only one more game to go in the regular season for the Talawanda men’s soccer team, head coach Heath Kelly said he is looking forward to next week’s Ohio State Tournament.

The first game for THS in the tournament will be against Ross High School.

“Ross was a good draw for THS, since our last game of the regular season is against Ross on their field,” Kelly said.

The last game of the regular season will be played on Thursday of this week.

Kelly said almost every year the team wins its first game but struggles in the next one. Talawanda has never made it to the third round. ”The goal for the team this year is to break the ‘curse,’” said Kelly, “and make it to the third round.”

Team Captain Simon Miller said he believes this year’s team will make it further in this tournament than it has in the history of THS soccer. “We have more skill, better communication than earlier THS teams and our love for this sport will get us further in the tournament than Talawanda has ever gone,” Miller said.

The first game of the tournament will be played at Ross on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m.
