Talawanda Wrestling Competes in SWOC Tournament

In the 2012 to 2013 season, the Talawanda High school wrestling team has members in the top five rankings in 10 out of the 14 weight classes. And, on Saturday February 2, they will face eight different schools for the title of SWOC (Southwest Ohio Conference) Champions.

Heavyweight wrestler Dalton Smith (with a record of 9-9) is pleased with the teams’ performance. “The team is doing the best that they possibly can,” he said.

Second-year varsity wrestler Carson Johnson is looking forward to the conference championships.  He said he thinks Talawanda is going to come out with a lot of top placers.

“I really Think that team captains Alex Logston and Adam Ruby will pull off victories at the SWOC tournament,” said Johnson.

Physical Education teacher Michael DeCello has helped multiple Talawanda wrestlers in the weight room and he has watched many of them grow this year. “The team is getting better this year,” he said.

DeCello also said he is pleased with the coach’s work, saying the coach knows what he is doing. “Coach Ruby is a good guy and is doing good work with the team.”

This is DeCello’s first year following the team and said he is impressed with the work they have done.

The SWOC Tournament will be held at Ross High school at 9:00 AM on Saturday February 2.
