Hot Chocolate Fun

Tis the season for fresh baked cookies, bright, decorative lights, santa claus, and most importantly, a freshly made cup of hot chocolate.  All of these things only come around one time per year, which makes people appreciate them even more.

On a cold winter day after being outside, the most refreshing thing to do is sit down and drink a nice, warm glass of hot chocolate.  It’s the perfect way to warm your body up while making your taste buds happy.  The magical thing about hot chocolate is that you can add almost anything to it in order to enhance the flavor.  That’s why I love it so much.

Some people enjoy their hot chocolate plain while others add a mixture of marshmallows, peppermint, and whipped cream.  I think the best way to spice up your cup of hot chocolate is to stir it with a candy cane instead of a spoon, then add in your favorite toppings.  The peppermint from the candy cane isn’t overpowering, it just adds the perfect amount of flavor to change the taste of your regular hot chocolate.

If you are someone who doesn’t like peppermint then you can buy any flavored creamer to mix into your steamy cup of hot chocolate.  This opens up several different flavor options for your hot chocolate.  It’s just another way to change the flavor.

When and if you decide to drink hot chocolate, remember that it is usually really hot.  The only disadvantage to hot chocolate is how hot it is.  It is incredibly easy to burn your tongue if drinking too fast, or too soon after it was made.  Be sure to blow some of the steam off of your cup before taking the first sip.  Also, topping help cool it off faster.

Students at Talawanda prefer hot chocolate over eggnog because there are several different things that can be added to it.  There’s really not many ways to mix up your eggnog unless you buy the flavored kind and that can get expensive.  Hot chocolate is relatively cheap and you can get it nearly everywhere.  So be sure to drink up while it’s still in season, and remember, there’s several ways to change the flavor.
