Movies Coming This Summer

Do you have time to burn this summer? Well, there are lots of highly anticipated films coming out this summer.

Snow White and the Huntsman: June 1st

This film is definitely not the same old fairy tale. Kristen Stewart plays Snow White, while Charlize Theron plays Queen Ravenna. The movie also has Thor star, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman.

The ruthless Queen Ravenna plans to take over the entire continent, but then her magic mirror tells her that she will be overthrown by her stepdaughter, Snow White. Who will also surpass her as the “Fairest of Them All.” There is only one way for Ravenna to remain in power, and that is to consume Snow White’s heart and achieve immortality.

Then, when Snow White manages to escape into the Dark Forest, the Queen must call on someone who is not afraid of the adventure that will lead him into the creature filled forest. She summons a Huntsman named Eric to kill the princess, but instead of killing Snow White, Eric begins to teach her unique skills in the art of war. Now, with the help of several dwarves and her childhood love Prince William, Snow White begins a revolution to kill her stepmother.

The dark, twisted version of the tale was filmed in the UK. It is rated PG-13 for for “intense sequences of violence and action, and brief sensuality.” Universal Pictures released three “Roll Call” TV Spots with the tag line, “This is no fairy tale.”

The Dark Knight Rises: July 20th

Based on the DC Comics character Batman, this film is the third installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman film series. The Dark Knight Rises is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). This movie is intended to be the conclusion of the series.

Following the death of District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for Dent’s crimes to protect Dent’s reputation. He is soon hunted by the Gothem City Police Department. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Batman returns to Gotham. There, he comes across the mysterious Selina Kyle and the villainous Bane. Now, he must confront these villain’s plans to destroy the city.

Christian Bale plays Bruce Wayne/Batman. Nolan has stated that, due to the eight-year gap between the events of The Dark Knight and those of The Dark Knight Rises, “he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”

This Means War star Tom Hardy plays the brutal villain, Bane. Hardy reportedly gained thirty pounds of muscle for the final movie of the series. His character was said to be chosen because of the desire to test Batman both physically as well as mentally. He wears a mask that supplies him with an analgesic gas to relieve pain he suffers from an injury sustained earlier in his story.

Anne Hathaway is Selina Kyle. She is “an associate” of Bane. Her character is more widely known as Catwoman. Hathaway has said that this role is her most physically demanding yet, especially fitting into the character’s signature leather costume.

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.

Total Recall: August 3rd

Total Recall is a science-fiction action remake of the 1990 film with the same name. Which is based on the 1966 short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale by Phillip K. Dick.

Unlike the original 1990 film, the plot of this new version lacks a trip to Mars. This film contains strong political overtones. It blends a Western and Eastern influence together, due to the fact that the two nation states in the movie, New Shanghai and Euroamerica are battling for political power.

Euroamerica (formerly North America and the European Union) and New Shanghai (formerly China and South East Asia) fight for political power in the year 2084. Colin Farrell stars as Douglas Quaid, a simple factory worker who is suffering from violent nightmares. From having these dreams, he begins to suspect he is a spy whose memory and personality were erased and replaced. Although he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on and also, how important his lost memories will be in its outcome.

Jessica Biel is Melina, a prostitute who may have links to Quaid’s past. Farrell now must team up with her to change the political power of their country, Euroamerica.

This 121 minute long film is not rated yet.

If you have time this summer you might consider going to the movies. Maybe you’ll choose to see a romance, or an action packed movie. Hey, it’s the summer, just enjoy it.
