Prom Preview

The Talawanda High School prom will take place at Harris Dining Hall on the campus of Miami University on Saturday, May 12.  The theme is “Living the Teenage Dream,” based upon the popular Katy Perry song.

THS principal, Vicki Brunn, reflected on the evening.  “I just love the prom.  You guys look like movie stars; sometimes I have to get a double-take just to see who it is because you guys look so grown up.”

Many of the girls take extra measures to look their best for the evening.  From hair to nails, a day of beauty is always in order.  “Beware of spray tans!” said junior, Julie Norton.

Prom king and queen will be announced at the dance, where they will dance together to an acoustic version of The One That Got Away by Katy Perry, followed by Teenage Dream.  The members of the Talawanda prom court are Luke Howard, Austin Kunkel, David Lawson, Jake Farthing, Kane Petro, Lindsay Crist, Rachel Winters, Katie Compton, Chelsea Elam, and Nicole Baker.

“It is an honor to be nominated and elected [to be on prom court.]  Even if I don’t make King, it was a fun experience,” said Luke Howard, “I didn’t even campaign for myself.  Casey Hopkins [THS senior] campaigned for me.”  Jake Farthing stated, “[Being on prom court] feels amazing.”  “He has let it go to his head.” whispered THS Senior, Courtney Carrier with a sneaky grin.

Putting together such a big event can be strenuous.  “It’s been a little hectic this semester with a lot of odd circumstances.  I also couldn’t get enough kids to sign up for prom commitee,” said junior class advisor and THS English teacher, Danielle Mann.  “It couldn’t be done without Mrs. Stivers, Mrs. Roy, and Mrs. Hedgepath.”

One of the members of prom court, Rachel Winters, has her birthday on prom night.  “It’s fun and exciting because I feel like I get an unofficial celebration in my mind.  I feel honored [to be on prom court.]” Winters stated.

After-prom, organized by the youth initiative team, will take place at THS promptly following the dance.  “I am stoked!” exclaimed THS junior, Elise LaFevers.  Admission to After-prom is included in the Prom ticket price.
