Perfection in Chicago

White Sox right-handed pitcher Philip Humber recorded the first perfect game thrown in almost two years on April 21st.  Humber becomes the 21st pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game.  Roy Halladay was the last person to a perfect game on May 29, 2010.

Humber was the third overall draft pick in the 2004 draft and selected by the New York Mets.  It wasn’t until 2010 until he got his first major league career win due to Tommy John surgery before his career even began.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Humber said.  “ I don’t know what Philip Humber is doing in this list.  No idea what my name is doing there, but I’m thankful its there.”

The last inning leading up to the perfect game started when Humber struck out Michael Saunders to start off the ninth.  He then got John Jaso to fly out and struck out Brenden Ryan to end the game.  Humber fell to his knees overwhelmed of his rare accomplishment and was mobbed by his White Sox teammates as they celebrated one of baseballs most difficult feats.
